Michelle Caldier Is a Trump Republican

Michelle Caldier is a Republican through and through.
Her party is the party of Trump – it is what it is --
AND IT IS NOT BIPARTISAN!

Caldier takes every opportunity to proudly proclaim her bi-partisan efforts and chat about how well she reaches across the aisle. She claims that even though she is in the minority party, she gets lots of amendments accepted and bills passed.

HERE ARE THE FACTS:

In 9 out of 10 votes, Caldier votes right along the Republican party line.

In 3 terms, she has introduced 52 bills, and only 17 have passed.
8 were concerning dental practices, a nod to one of her biggest group of donors.

In 6 years, she has only offered 33 amendments – this is out of 3737 votes! Only about half of those amendments were accepted.

Over 50 times, she has been one of a tiny group of dissenting votes, often with just one or two others.

In fact, she rarely votes against her party (less than 1 out of 10 votes), but when she does, she is often in the extreme minority! This means that although she did vote against her party, she voted against the Democrats as well! Voting against everyone may be odd, but it is not bi partisan.

Our district is a deeply purple district – we need someone who can truly represent all of the constituents, and not merely throw an occasional token vote across the aisle.

Michelle Caldier does not support women!

Healthcare. Workplace safety. Maternity care. Reproductive rights.

Caldier has voted against all of those.

Michelle Caldier tries to paint herself as a caring bi-partisan player, but that is a facade. She is an acute conservative who votes right along the Trump party line. And that is not good for women.

Michelle Caldier stands firmly with Big Pharma and Insurers on Drug Pricing

No one should die because they cannot afford insulin.

Michelle Caldier stands firmly with Big Pharma and Insurers on Drug Pricing.

Caldier voted NO on a popular bi-partisan bill to reign in soaring costs of insulin. The bill restricts patient out-of-pocket costs for insulin to $100/month.                         (SB 6087 – 2019-20)

WA26 Reps Jesse Young and Michelle Caldier – Unmasked

Rep. Jesse Young and Rep. Michell Caldier have been vocal supporters of the President’s Covid19 misinformation policy.

We can only hope the events of this week can become a teachable moment for Rep. Jesse Young and Rep. Michelle Caldier, who have openly defied Washington State Public CoVid-19 Guidelines from the very beginning. They both have been seen not wearing masks in public.  Both Caldier and Young have been at odds with Gov Inslee about the CoVid-19 shutdown and reopening plan from the beginning. Is their non-masking wearing a symbol of their political arguments against the Governor or do they simply not believe in Public Health science?

Caldier and Young have expressed their disapprovals in different manners consistent with their own personalities.  Young has been both loud and “in your face”, demonstrating at many public rallies while Caldier has taken several different passive-aggressive tactics to defying Public Health Guidelines. Both severely undermining the health and safety of all Washingtonians

In January 2019 Jesse Young, standing with his accused domestic terrorist “ride or die” buddy Matt Shea, said “Representative Shea or I would take a bullet for the Lt Governor; we would take a bullet for any one of our constituents. We are here to defend you as well as our service for you”. Constituents are not so demanding as that -- we only ask that he simply wear a mask and encourage others to do the same.

Michelle Caldier at Gig Harbor Chamber Public Affairs Forum - July 2 2020 District 26, was asked “With the spread of CoVid-19 spiking, do you agree that masks should be required in public?” Her short answer was “I do not support a mandate”. The balance of her answer was trying to explain how “Mask Wearing” was not enforceable and just human nature to resist. Many laws have been passed changing our behaviors to improve on public health and safety such as seat belts, motorcycle helmets, drunk driving, and smoking in public. These behavioral changes have become social norms with expectations of cooperation, and that people tend to obey the law if they expect many others to do so.

Caldier claims to be a leader but refuses to lead. Mask wearing during this CoVid-19 pandemic certainly will save many lives and should also become a social norm. Claiming something is a personal right regardless of the situation is not what living in a free society means. In a free society we do have an obligation to our fellow citizens. Exposing ourselves or others to undue danger would seem to be something that can and should be regulated. Hence, seatbelts requirements, laws against driving under the influence, smoking bans, and wearing masks to avoid getting or giving a deadly disease all make sense. We wear pants in public. We wear shoes and shirts in restaurants.

During the pandemic Caldier has been visiting businesses bringing care packages to front line essential workers, a noble gesture if done safely. As a former Doctor of Dentistry, she should understand the risk of posing for publicity photos un-masked with little physical distancing. The employee in this photo (June2) stated he removed his mask for the photo. Was this an altruistic gesture or a cheap political stunt?

In June Caldier had her team of young volunteer pose UNMASKED & NOT SOCIAL DISTANCED for a FB post recruiting more volunteers to do doorbelling. No responsible politician should be going door to door during a plague. This activity expose both the constituents and volunteers to this virus.  Just posing for the photo endangered her team.

On May 9th in Olympia Jesse Young spoke to 1500 people who attended an unpermitted rally (Hazardous Liberty) rally against Governor Inslee’s shutdown to stop the CoVid-19 spread. Jesse did not wear a mask and rambled for seven minutes about religious freedoms, first amendment violations, and not needing a law degree to read the Constitution.

Democracy-hating Gubernatorial candidate Loren Culp held protest rallies in Gig Harbor on Sept 27 and in Port Orchard on Sep 30, drawing large crowds of non-mask wearing supporters. Young was a speaker at the former and Caldier at the latter. They both have made masks a major theme of their campaigns. Claims of mask wearing infringing on personal freedoms during a global pandemic are absurd. A true leader armed with the best current public health information should be trying to help convince the public to wear mask. To fix the economy we must take control over the virus. It is not a choice between the economy and public health, there is a mutual interdependence.

Clearly Jesse Young and Michelle Caldier do not understand the situation. It is overdue, we MUST make a change in our leadership in Olympia.

WA26 Representative Michelle Caldier – Weak on Opioid Crisis

Michelle Caldier has a highly questionable response to the opioid crisis. She has voted multiple times against measures aimed at curbing opioid use and educating physicians on the dangers of over-prescribing. As a former dentist who receives a large percentage of her support from a Dental PAC, she appears conflicted about who she is supporting – Dentists or patients.

The Opioid Crisis has intensified at an alarming rate during the Covid-19 crisis. Healthcare professionals are deeply concerned that the substance abuse disorder and accompanying mental health issues will continue to spiral out of control as the Pandemic continues to keep the economy constricted, and people isolated. Tragically, the rise of Opioid abuse is closely tied to heroin use, which is also on a steep rise. People addicted to opioid painkillers are 40 times more likely to abuse or be dependent on heroin.

https://www.ama-assn.org/system/files/2020-09/issue-brief-increases-in-opioid-related-overdose.pdf

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/07/01/coronavirus-drug-overdose/

The Dental community has been far more reluctant than physicians to reduce use of opioids. Dentists in the U.S. prescribe opioids at a rate 70 times higher than dentists in England, a new study finds.

“Studies have shown that even as opioid prescribing rates have been declining overall, dental prescribing rates have been on the rise”.

“Dentists are one of the top prescribers of opioids, second only to family physicians”

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-opioids-dentists-idUSKCN1SY2LZ

Caldier receives a huge portion of her campaign funds from dentists around the state and the WA State Dental PAC.

Therefore, it is no coincidence that Caldier has voted against several proposals to help stem the epidemic:

Caldier voted NO (in extreme minority) on establishing an opioid epidemic response advisory council.  (HB 2786 - 2019-20 passed; 68-28)

Caldier voted NO (in extreme minority) on restrictions on prescriptions for opioid drugs. This involves educating physicians on best practices regarding the prescribing of Opioids. (HB 1339 - 2017-18 passed 91-6)

Caldier voted NO on Modernizing substance use disorder professional practice. This bill was aimed at reducing the stigmatization of victims of substance use disorder. (HB 1340 - 2017-18 passed; 63-35)

Caldier appears to be more beholden to her Dental PAC than to her constituents. If she is genuinely concerned about the rising heroin drug use and the accompanying increased criminal behavior; you would think she would want to address the root cause. We need a voice in Olympia that will speak for the vulnerable.

WA26 Representative Michelle Caldier – Votes Against Families

Michelle Caldier likes to represent herself as a family values candidate, however that is not supported by her voting record.

In 2016 the people of Washington State voted into law Initiative I-1433, a referendum that provides for PFML (paid family and medical leave). This insurance program provides reasonable paid family leave for the birth or placement of a child with the employee, for the care of a family member who has a serious health condition and provides reasonable paid medical leave for an employee's own serious health condition. The severe need for this critical support has been harshly underlined by the COVID 19 crisis.
Allowing families to care for an ill loved one, or be together during the early weeks after the birth of a baby without financial stress and hardship creates stronger families and thus, a stronger community. PFML benefits everyone.

In 2016 57.4% the people of Washington voted overwhelmingly for I-1433 to make this reality. In 2017, a bill, SB 5975 (prime sponsored by a Republican senator), was introduced requiring the employment security department to establish and administer the PMFL program and pay family and medical leave benefits. This bill received wide bipartisan support in both the house and senate and was signed into law July 5, 2017. This law allows people to take 16 weeks (18 weeks if there are pregnancy complications) of reasonable paid family leave for the birth or placement of a child with the employee, for the care of a family member or provide reasonable paid medical leave for an employee's own serious health condition.

This bill will cost the state nothing, not one penny. It is funded like Social Security and Unemployment Insurance by payroll deduction from the employee and employer. The employee is providing their own social safety net through payroll deductions.
CALDIER VOTED NO on SB 5975 - 2017-18 House passed; yeas, 65; nays, 29; Senate passed yeas, 37; nays, 12.

Some people will say she cast only one vote against PFML but that is not true. Caldier has voted NO in 2020 on two other separate occasions against additional PFML bills that fix technicalities in the first bills.
Feb 13, 2020 HB 2614 - 2019-20
Concerning paid family and medical leave.
passed; yeas, 60; nays, 37;  Caldier NO

Feb 28, 2020 HB 1399 - 2019-20
Concerning paid family and medical leave.
March 1, 2019 passed; yeas, 71; nays, 23;
Caldier NO
Whether it is taking time off for a family member coping with significant end of life illness or building lifelong bonds with a sweet cuddly newborn child, Michelle Caldier has consistently voted against Washingtonians receiving paid leave for those life events. In review, the majority of Washingtonians are for PMFL and the bipartisan majority of the legislature is for PMFL.

Why is Caldier so out of step on this issue?

Time for a change in Olympia, we need a representative who supports families in their time of need.

Stay tuned as ‘Shine a Light on the Right’ focuses on Caldier’s extreme minority NO votes in the Health arena showing connections to her many corporate sponsors. We will be taking an in depth look at bills that had bipartisan support while Caldier voted NO on bills about Medicare fraud, tribal dental services, ACA, Paid Family Leave, reproductive rights, prescription drug prices, a cap of $100 insulin cost, Opioid help, Telemedicine, meal & rest breaks for nurses plus more.

90% of Caldier’s Funding Comes From Outside the District

Michelle Caldier, a former dentist, has strong backing from the Dental community, but not so much from her constituents, who account for only 10% of her campaign donations.

If you want to know how Caldier will vote on bills that affect the Health of her district, watch the Logos of her Corporate Sponsors.

Political Campaign Finance is messy, shadowy, and complex. Current court rulings (Citizens United) allow corporations to be treated as if they were real live “people” when donating to politicians. Michelle Caldier has taken full advantage of this ruling in each of her campaigns. Accepting corporate money is permitted; although some politicians choose not to accept these types of donations to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Rep. Caldier’s corporate sponsors come from a wide variety of industries like oil, tobacco, energy, aviation, and health care. However, the largest concentration of her donations comes from the health sector, with the single largest donor group being Dental. Over 45 health care related sponsors have donated in the current and previous Caldier campaigns. Over 70% of these sponsors have donated directly to her campaign multiple times, apparently very satisfied by her performance. Individual dentists also donate directly to her race. As of September 1st,2020, individual dentists have donated $82,000 which is 60% of her total year-to-date. 15% of her donations come from corporations in the medical field while less than 10% of her donations come from constituents from the 26th LD.

https://www.followthemoney.org/entity-details?eid=15737439&default=candidate

The WASHINGTON STATE DENTAL PAC is a PAC formed to fund candidates and political causes that support the goals of organized dentistry. They have been extremely generous to Caldier in the past with exceptionally large I.E.’s (independent expenditures). In past elections they have donated close to $100,000 to their fellow dentist Caldier and show no signs of slowing down this cycle.

What do they get for their money? Caldier has introduced a total of 52 bills in her legislative career, and 13 of those bills concerned Dentistry -- that is 25%!  While dentistry is important, is it really an issue on which we want our legislator spending a quarter of her energies?

Notably she voted AGAINST expanding tribal dental services! (HB1414)

If only politicians would wear logos of their sponsors like NASCAR drivers, we would know who employs them.

Michelle Caldier – Votes Against Transportation

Michelle Caldier talks a good game when she tells her 26th LD constituents that she wants to improve transportation issues in our area.

Let’s take a close look at her record.

During the 2019 legislative session, Michelle voted against 7 of 9 bills concerning Transportation.

Her voting record on transportation was far worse than Jesse Young, who only voted against 4 of 9 bills.

Michelle was one of only 2 legislators in both the House and Senate (145-2) to vote against HB 1160 the final Transportation Budget that appropriated $9.837 billion for state transportation agencies and programs for the 2019-21 fiscal biennium. Even Jesse Young voted YES on this bill.

Caldier’s May 28, 2019 newsletter states she voted against new transportation budget in part because it included $187 million to pay for a new 144-car hybrid-electric ferry, less than 2% of the total budget. Caldier said “This is part of the reason I voted against the transportation budget and opposed House Bill 2161.” No other reason was listed.

Watch what Michelle Caldier DOES, not what she says.

Michelle Caldier Falsely Claims Voter Fraud

Irresponsible and Reckless Michelle

“Voter fraud is a serious issue... we should only be receiving one ballot!!” posted Michelle Caldier on 10/29/19 Facebook post.

It is irresponsible for an elected official to claim FRAUD was involved after a system problem was identified and corrected. Fraud is defined as intentional deception to secure unfair or unlawful gain.

No one intentionally tried to vote twice. This is just Michelle Caldier fueling the false voter fraud flame like someone else we know named Donald Trump.

The Pierce County Auditor’s Office has fixed record-keeping to ensure hundreds of Pierce County voters who received duplicate ballots for the Nov. 5 election can’t vote twice.

The Auditor’s Office found 350 voters — .07 percent of the county’s 519,000 ballots sent out — were affected by record discrepancies after a News Tribune’s inquiry into duplicate ballots.

The election’s office database stored variations on the affected voters’ names, including different spacing, spelling or hyphenation. One voter who received a duplicate ballot, John DeGuiseppi, or De Guiseppi, got a new driver’s license in August. The license has his name without a space between “De” and “Guiseppi,” but his voter registration includes the space.

It is irresponsible for an elected official to claim FRAUD was involved after a system problem was identified and corrected.
